In order to implement Sino-Czech governmental project，namely “Establishment of Methods and Technology Platform: Research and Discovery of New Immunomodulatory and Anti-inflammation Agents from Chinese Materia Medica (CMM)”, a Czech delegation paid a visit to the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences from September 23rd to 29th, 2011.  The delegation consisted of Professor Dr. Zdeněk Zídek, head of the Department of Pharmacology, Institute of Experimental Medicine, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and Association Professor Dr. Eva Kmoníčková, from the same institute.  Professor ZHU Xiaoxin’s team arranged all reception of delegation members and carried out academic exchange with them.  Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences put forward all-round supports for this exchange.

During the visit, two parts organized an academic forum, namely “Sino-Czech Symposium on Immunopharmacology and Traditional Medicine”. The Czech experts delivered 2 presentations at the forum, including: “What do We Expect from Novel Immunomodulatory Drugs” and “Rational and Economic Approach to Immunopharmacological Screening”.  Meanwhile, the Chinese experts also made introductions about Chinese Pharmacopoeia, the supervision system of medicines in China, modern pharmacological study of Chinese materia medica, Artemisinin and Artemisia anuua L.  Following the forum, the experts from two parties discussed about further co-research in the next three years and achieved a detail working plan.

Besides forum and academic exchange, the institute also arranged Czech experts to visit the Tongrentang Pharmaceutical Company and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.  Moreover, the delegation also visited the Great Wall, the Palace Museum, Prince Kung’s Mansion, as well as other interesting places.  Through these activities, the Czech experts not only learned more about the development and achievements of traditional Chinese medicine and its modern study, but also the excellent cultural heritage and beautiful natural scenery of Beijing. Czech experts highly appreciated the reception and arrangement offered by the Institute.

Both Chinese and Czech experts reached a better understand with each other via this reception and academic exchange.  They also worked out the working plan for the next stage cooperation.  The visit of Czech delegation achieved expected results.
